Louise (née Rossi) Cappelletti Ingala, born Dec. 2, 1916, in Waterbury, CT, passed away gently on April 4, 2020, at the home of her daughter, Beverly Laub, where she had been lovingly cared for over the past 8 years.
She is a native of Waterbury, CT, and moved to Falls Church, VA, following the death of her husband. She quickly settled into the life of the City, befriending neighbors and joining the Italian Conversation Group at the Falls Church Senior Center. Louise was a life-long volunteer in Waterbury, CT, from being a founding member of the neighborhood elementary PTA, Girl Scout Troop leader, receptionist at the local chapter of the American Red Cross, teaching ESL to Afghan immigrants, to serving on various committees at her church. An accomplished, “by ear” piano player, she brought musical joy weekly to two Waterbury nursing homes well into her 90’s. She loved people and was generous in reaching out to many. She befriended and aided an Albanian immigrant family who remained among her many friends across the age spectrum. She was a champion of American Indians and sponsored a Native American child for many years, and her name appears on the Memorial Wall at the Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
Louise is survived by her brother, John Rossi of Waterbury, her sister, Edith Scopino of Simsbury, CT, her three children, Fred R. Cappelletti (Elaine) of Stony Brook NY, Ronald Cappelletti, of Montgomery Village, MD, and Beverly Laub (Michael) of Falls Church, VA. She was a cherished "Nonnie" to six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, was “Aunt Louise” to many nieces and nephews, and was beloved by the many people whose hearts she touched over the years. The family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to her loving caregivers Atsede and Helen; and Abby, Rahel, Margaret, Mykaela, Helen and Sierra of Home Instead Senior Care of Falls Church; and to Goodwin House Hospice of Falls Church, VA.
Donations in Louise’s memory may be made to: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Waterbury, CT (www.olmcwtby.com); St. James Church, Falls Church, VA (www.stjamescatholoc.org); The Association on American Indian Affairs (www.indian-affairs.org); and www.catholiccharitiesusa.org
