Malik Jaamal Habib was born in Arlington, VA to his mother Laura Inez Montiel and his father Ahmed Abrar Habib. He was raised in Alexandria, VA where he shared his earliest childhood memories. Since birth he was truly a happy soul who enjoyed the simplicities of life. Family was a big word in early in his life starting with his grandparents Carolina Montiel and Gonzalo Montiel. He grew up in a strong family and would work hard to do everything in his power to ease the burden of others. He loved the outdoors and being around people where he could always discover the wonders of this life which would come to fuel his joy and passion to find purpose in his life. This approach allowed him to find success in life in all that he did as he would find and define his role, then learn to play his position with a great passion. This would suit him well as he would come to discover one of his favorite sports in football. There was just something about that team spirit and camaraderie that he loved as it was a reflection of the efforts it would take to overcome many of life’s battles and challenges. It was a reminder of that very same family feel that he would understand is extended and open to all that would be willing to join him.
One of the more important things to note about Malik was the knowledge he possessed and that he was a very intelligent kid, even at a young age. This was apparent throughout his school career, always bringing home good grades, and even into the collegiate level in his pursuit of a degree in IT. However, it was more than simply the good grades in school, as you could find him always trying to get into the circle of his elders in order to gain more knowledge and learn the secrets to life. The resulting benefits of this curiosity would become noticeable through the years as he displayed mental strength and discipline at an early age only to have this developed and enhanced as he grew older.
Tragedy struck us all to hear Malik’s life being taken from us so soon that Saturday night, June 23, 2018. Much sooner than we all could have ever predicted. Malik’s life was well lived in it’s entirety throughout his time with us and he will always be remembered as a brilliant young man with a bright future ahead of him. We will always remember the funny, smart, handsome, and caring man that he left us as. There are many memories we all share with Malik and he will be survived by his beloved family, including his mother Laura Montiel, his brother Cyrus Habib, his aunt Sandra Montiel, his uncle Paul Trott, his grandmother Carolina Montiel, and his grandfather Gonzalo Montiel, along with others in his family who share great and wonderful memories and all of his dear friends, whose hearts he has touched in so many ways.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 in honor and celebration of Malik’s life. All are welcome to pay their respects and join the family. The service will begin promptly at 6 pm at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church,Virginia 22042.
