

Marjorie Helen Helsel Black Glittenberg of Silver Spring, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2023. Marj was born May 2, 1926, in Salix, Pennsylvania to parents Percy and Olive Helsel. She was one of six siblings growing up on the family’s dairy farm in Elton, Pennsylvania.
After graduating high school, she left home for Washington, D.C. where she took roots with her husband, Cameron Black, also from Elton, PA. The two wed in 1947 before having a son, James in 1952 and a daughter Sherry in 1954. After the untimely passing of Cameron in 1955 at age 32, Marj raised both children on her own before marrying her second husband, Hank Glittenberg, in 1966 at Graham Road United Methodist Church ¬– where she became an active member serving on several committees.
Marj served over 28 years in government services, working for the Department of the Navy, the Army Transportation Corps, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense until her retirement.
In retirement, Marj volunteered at the office of Bethany House of Northern Virginia for battered spouses and delivered meals to those in need with the church. She enjoyed traveling both within the United States and abroad with husband, Hank, and their friends. She discovered the the beauty of the U.S. by visiting all its National Parks.
She is preceded in death by her second husband (2004), son, James Arthur Black (1991), brothers, Wayne Helsel, Jay Helsel, and sisters, Barbara (Helsel) Selders and Dolores (Helsel) Peterson.
Marj most enjoyed her 97 years spending time with her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Lynn (Black) Eberhardt, bonus children, Don Glittenberg and Linda (Glittenberg) Taylor, youngest brother, Galen Helsel, grandchildren, Brad Eberhardt (Kristina) and Erik Eberhardt (Jennifer), and great-grandchildren Nathan Eberhardt (Erik) and Emerson Eberhardt (Brad), as well as, many beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Marjorie will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
