

REMEMBRANCE
Marvin Herman Ribyat passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023, at the View Goodwin House Alexandria two weeks after his 99th birthday. Marvin was born in Syracuse, New York, on June 6, 1924 to parents Morris A. Ribyat and Sarah Goldberg Ribyat. Marvin left high-school to join the army and proudly served in Europe during World War II, 1943-1946. He returned home and managed Ribyat Brother’s clothing in Syracuse for many years with his father. He married his childhood sweetheart, Phyllis Pinkus Ribyat, on December 29, 1946. They enjoyed almost 70 years of blissful marriage until Phyllis passed in October 2016. Marvin and Phyllis lived in New York State, Maryland, Florida and lastly Virginia. They traveled extensively to over 24 countries. Marvin chronicled his travels with his camera and enjoyed photographing wildlife and flowers. In his later years, he was a prolific painter of birds and wildlife, a writer of poems and stories of his life, and loved to correspond with his many friends. Marvin lived every day to the fullest. He was always thinking of others, generous and compassionate, engaging people with stories and jokes. Marvin is survived by his son Kenneth M. Ribyat and wife Susan (Hardcastle) Ribyat, his grandson Nathaniel Raymond Ribyat, and his daughter Sharon Joy (Ribyat) von Bergener.
