I am deeply saddened by the news of Matt’s passing. For more than fifteen years, I had the privilege of working alongside him on few projects, and I will always be grateful for the time shared.

Matt was exceptionally kind, intelligent, and generous. No matter how busy he was, he always made time to help others, offering guidance with humility and patience. His depth of knowledge was matched by a sincere passion for mentoring others.

He was far more than a colleague; he was a trusted friend. Whenever I needed advice, whether professionally or personally, I knew I could turn to Matt, and he would find a moment to listen.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be profoundly missed. May he rest in peace.

I have known Matthew since he first came to Freddie Mac years ago. While our careers eventually took us to different parts of the company, our paths often crossed. We certainly had many work conversations, but I most enjoyed when we talked about "the old days," former colleagues, or how the Pirates were faring. 

I hope his family knows how deeply respected and well-regarded he was by his colleagues. He contributed so much, not only through his valuable insights and work contributions, but also by fostering a culture of collaboration and respect.   

I will sincerely miss him.   My prayers and condolences to his family.

Matthew hired me to Freddie Mac over 20 years ago. He was very smart, down to earth, and gentle. He was a great boss and a trusted friend, and I will really miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Matthew was one of the smartest people among us economics grad students at UNC-Chapel Hill. He was passionate about his Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team, he had a great dry sense of humor (e.g., his so-called Gresham's Law of beer), and eclectic taste in music (the Violent Femmes!) Rest in peace, good friend.

Eternal rest grant unto Matt oh Lord..

We have lost with Matthew a valuable colleague and great friend. I remember dinners in graduate school at UNC with Matthew and Justine, as they were always so giving of their apartment, food and drink. Years later I hired Matthew into my group at Freddie Mac. And he was a model employee and modeler as we brought our Early Indicator software to market. He left Freddie, and then we hired him back, where he stayed employed until his untimely death. While I left, we stayed in touch. On April 5 of last year, I organized a Zoom call with old colleagues from UNC, where I got to see Matthew for the last time. His understated style and sharp wit were in clear evidence to the end. I never imagined we would lose him so soon. So long my dear friend!

Some people you meet only a few times, still leave an indelible impression through their kindness and genuineness. Matthew was one of those people. Every time I saw him in the hallway or in a meeting, his presence made people feel at ease and cared for.
