She was predeceased by her spouse Lynn Neiswander, children Lisa Neiswander and Paul Neiswander, and sisters Corinne Giles and Charlotte Neal.
Nancy was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. After high school, she served in the US Navy Women’s Reserve (WAVES) as a pharmacy assistant in California as WWII came to an end. Thereafter, Nancy attended Miami University (OH) on the GI Bill and earned a BA in Music, with a major in Voice.
She continued her vocal studies as a graduate student at the Indiana University School of Music but set aside her career plans to marry and raise four children. Nancy worked as a secretary while her husband attended seminary and served congregations in Ohio and Michigan, and when the family later moved to Toledo, Ohio.
Throughout her time in Ohio and Michigan, Nancy’s love of music was always apparent. She served as a music teacher in the Alpena (MI) school system for several years and taught piano and voice in each community where the family lived. She enjoyed singing in select community choirs and often shared her musical gifts in talent shows and community programs.
After retirement, Nancy and Lynn moved to Arlington, VA and enjoyed being near most of their children and grandchildren. She became a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in Bible studies and the adult choir for more than a decade. She also took trips to Italy, Hawaii, and to Sweden, where she was delighted to meet several of her Swedish cousins.
Later in life, Nancy moved to Goodwin House, where she enjoyed socializing and various activities, including singing in the Encore Chorale. She continued to reside at Goodwin House as her care needs increased, benefiting from the dedication and skill of the staff through her final day.
Nancy will be dearly missed by all of her family members. She will be remembered with great love and appreciation for her kind heart, her dedication to family, and her love of music.
A funeral service for Nancy will be held Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3022 Woodlawn Avenue, Falls Church, VA 22042.
