Rachel Deitch, beloved and cherished daughter of Russell and Lisa Deitch, died too young at 25 on April 7, 2019 of a blood clot. She was a talented young lawyer who won a number of cases as an Assistant Attorney General for the District of Columbia. Among her many accomplishments was receiving a grant from the University of Virginia to support her research about funding to combat Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, she worked on legislation, which unanimously passed, to increase Virginia college students’ access to mental health resources. She also had two articles published in the Georgetown Journal of Poverty Law and Policy. She loved to read, visit with friends and family, and travel. She had a positive outlook on life, great sense of humor, and easy acceptance of all people. She was a powerful advocate, and terrific writer and speaker. She brought incredible joy to her parents every day of her life. She is survived by her parents, her cousins Ricki Schweizer (David Braun) and Mark Schweizer (Bob Voelker), her grandmother Debra Deitch, uncle Michael Weinstein, and aunt Melinda Gerber.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Rachel's name to one of her favorite organizations, The Alzheimer's Association, or Brody Jewish Center of the University of Virginia. Links to donate are found below.
