Raymond Anthony Grant was born on February 17, 1951, in Colon, Republic of Panama to the late Nattie and Marietta Grant. Raymond also known as “Grant” was educated in the Republic of Panamanian school system where he attended and graduated from the prestigious Abel Bravo School. After he graduated, he met and later married Delretta Grant, and from this union, a daughter was born, Sheila Maria Grant.

Raymond and Delretta moved to the United States of America where Raymond enlisted in the United States Army traveling to many states and serving 25 years. While in the Army, they traveled to many places in the United States and other countries. He was stationed at Clayton Army Base for a period, before returning to the United States. After twenty-five years of service in the Army, he retired and began a new career in the Federal Government, working for Department of Justice’s Prison Bureau until 2017. Ray enjoyed writing and sending emails to tell his stories as he saw them, to his family and friends. He even took a class “Art of Persuasion” at the community college and was so excited about taking this class, he made writing his forte.

He was predeceased by his wife, after which he changed and was never the same vibrant, inquisitive person. His health began to fail, and he later found himself with kidney failure and having to do dialysis. Between 2018-2021 Raymond relocated to New York to live with his daughter Sheila, and later moved to Atlanta, GA where his health worsened. He passed away on September 23, 2021, from heart complications. His closest and dearest friend, for 25+ years, Ernesto Debeauville, has been through it all with him. He was a brother, confidant, spiritual, best friend, and everything that he could be, and his friendship was beyond close.

Raymond was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughters Sheila Maria Grant, Dalia Leonora Grant – (Latty), brother Carlos Stewart, grandson, Austin Dodson, granddaughters Kimberly and Keithy Cumberbatch and a host of family and friends. Many will miss the emails about his favorite meals. pictures and jokes. Yes, he will surely be missed.

I met Raymond through my sister Daphne. He was a great guy and we adopted him into our family. I remember Raymond always supporting my son Bryan in his daycare activities at the Scripture Cathedral Church. The one event that stood out the most was the fashion show he attended for my 5 year old son. Raymond cheered Bryan on sharing he was the coolest and the best dressed for this show. At the end Bryan received the first prize trophy.
He will be truly missed. Our condolences and prayers are with his daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.

Raymond was a dear friend/ brother to my sister Daphne (Taylor) for 30 +years. I met him in the 90’s and became a friend. We loved to go to the movies and comedy shows together and some family events. Raymond had a beautiful spirit and if you met him, you never forgot him. He liked to debate in jest with Daphne which he lost but that didn’t deter him😊 l remember us going to the E St Cinema to see a documentary and Raymond (the writer) sent us a review afterwards - only thing is Raymond went to sleep shortly after the movie started! 😊
Of course Daphne reminded him that what he wrote was inaccurate because he was asleep. Hence, there was more debating and laughter. God took Raymond home to ease his suffering and for that l am grateful. He will be missed immensely but even in grief when l think of him l smile and laugh because of the wonderful and heartfelt times we shared. May you Rest In Peace, dear Raymond🙏🏽❤️
