He was born and grew up in Washington DC. He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard James and Edna Mae Rooney, his previous wife Ruth, and his older sister Betty Hanger( Mickey).
He is survived by 2 children from a previous wife marriage. Linda and Richard and 2 step daughters Ara Joy Perez and Ana Mae Perez.
He leaves six siblings. Janet (Mike) Johnson, Ruth (John) Cruvo, Edna (Clarence) Neese, John (Carol) Rooney, Thomas Rooney, and Joan (Mike) Weaver. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews .
He graduated from Eastern High School in Washington DC.
He joined the US navy and Served in Korean War. He retired front the International Communication Agency. He was a volunteer Fire Department of Fairfax, VA in his younger years and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. He enjoyed dancing, reading and gardening.
