Stephen Joseph McTeague, of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away at home on January 4, 2026. Steve was a graduate of Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School, obtained his bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, and earned his MBA from The Pennsylvania State University.
Steve retired from Verizon as a Logistics Manager after 25 years of employment. Although technically retired, Steve continued to serve the Edward Douglass White Council of the Knights of Columbus, in Arlington, Virginia on an almost full-time basis. Steve served as the Grand Knight from 2012 – 2014 and continued to serve as a Trustee, as a Redcoat, and as a volunteer at events too numerous to mention.
Steve has been an active member of St. James Parish for most of his life. His time at St. James began inauspiciously, with the nuns frequently marking his penmanship papers with the stamp of an Angel covering her eyes in dismay. Steve continued to serve at St. James in a variety of capacities, most recently as an usher. Alas, his handwriting would make an Angel cover her eyes for his entire life.
Steve was a dedicated DC sports fan, attending as many Caps games as possible and traveling to the Nats Spring Training every year. Spring Training included preparing an informal scouting report with his friend Julie and comparing notes with John and Jenifer.
One of the things Steve enjoyed the most were his annual trips to the Outer Banks with a large group of friends, who became family. Steve treasured that time with his “family.”
Predeceased by his father, Stephen F. McTeague; his mother, Jean McTeague; and his beloved sister, Rosemary McTeague Sales, Steve is survived by his sisters, Kathleen McTeague Dartez of Baltimore, MD, and Lorna McTeague Shanklin of Leesburg, VA; by three brothers-in-law, Domingo Sales of Virginia Beach, VA, Ray Shanklin of Leesburg, VA, and Roger Dartez of Baltimore, MD. Steve is survived by seven nieces and nephews, Jordan McTeague, Nico Sales, Erica Sales, Nicole Sales, Donovan Dartez, Roman Dartez, and Corey Shanklin.
A wake will be held at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church on Monday, January 19 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 20 followed by burial at National Memorial Park in Falls Church. A repast will follow at the EDW Council of the Knights of Columbus in Arlington.
