Surinder was a great person, he was three months older than me and we use to have a good time growing up together when we were young. I remember when we used to go to school together back in Kenya, those were great times. I always respected Surinder, he was my uncle and in many ways a brother too! May he Rest In Peace!

I am grateful to Surinder chachaji for always reaching out, for his valuable advice, support and encouragement. I always remember when he took me on my first 25 k walk in Kenya and encouraged me to the finish line. He was a great uncle. I will miss our conversations. Surinder, Pam, Amrit and Manjit have been family friends for over 30 years. We first met when our children were on soccer teams and swim team together. One fond memory is when Manjit and Becca cornered Surinder at a brunch to pen him down on a date for a long talked about trip to India. Surinder bowed to the pressure of these two young women and he and Pam took the girls on a trip to India that was life changing. We were so happy that Becca could experience India with someone who spoke the languages and knew the culture. This was a real treasure. 
We will all miss Surinder's welcoming smile and calm presence.

Surinder we shared the same birth year, attended the same primary school and we grew together as brothers. I can not forget our sweet childhood games played with toys made from all kinds things which most considered trash. I guess that’s how we developed an interest for repairing cars and different mechanical gadgets. We always sat for meals together and shared jokes and politics in addition to others aspects of life. When you left Kenya,  we lost touch for a while even though we met intermittently.  In 2018 when I moved to Alexandria, I was devastated to learn about your illness, but you made the most of each day.  We made a point of meeting daily and we would reminisce about  past joyful experiences .  I will always cherish our close relationship, and  I already miss you so much. Rest well dear brother.

I am very grateful to have come to know uncle well over the last two years since I moved to Alexandria for work.  I will miss joking about politics and California with him, and his daily calls with my father.  Most of all I will miss his kindness. He was a caring and genuine person. Rest well uncle. Peace and love to aunty Pam, Manjit, Amrit, Michelle and Kai.

Surinder was  not only a great uncle to me but also a big brother, and friend. Needless to say our history began since my birth. He was always there to help when ever there was a need.  I would not have been able to complete my post graduate studies without his help, for which I am eternally grateful. In latter part of our lives we became more closer to each other . I shall miss him dearly for  his warmth and generosity, above all I will miss our almost daily Skype calls.

Pam and Surinder were among the first to greet us when we moved in next door to them on Glasgow Road. We enjoyed their friendship for many years and stayed in touch after our retirement to Florida. Surinder was kindest and most gentle of friends. Always ready to help or engage in pleasant conversation (on any topic) ... or both! We are grateful that he and Pam were able to visit in Cocoa Beach where Surinder grandly announced he finally felt warm. The memories are too numerous to recount so you look for threads that connect them: gentle, good humor, curious, interest in new places and new things ... FRIEND. We will miss him, but take comfort in having known him.

Chase was a very kind man.  He called my husband John his brother. When I was in Alexandria, he took time out of his busy day to take me and John to lunch.  I had the most delicious mango drink he recommended for me. My family will miss Chase dearly.  Pam, stay strong. May our Kenyan brother Chase rest in peace.

I first met Surinder more than half a century ago, in 1966 in Nairobi. I had just arrived from Kampala to start my university education at the University of Nairobi and Surinder was a thriving businessman, owning and operating a gas station. He was very popular among us poor students as he always gave us petrol (as we called gas everywhere else in the world) on credit and often wrote off what we owed. he was one of the most generous people I knew. I left Nairobi for studies in Denmark and USA in 1970 but we remained good friends, meeting up during my visits to Nairobi. Then one day in the mid-seventies Surnider surprised me with a visit in Washington – he declared that he had moved here and wanted to buy a gas station and asked me to leave my job at the World Bank and join him. I told him I knew nothing about gas stations but he persisted until a compromise solution was found: I told him my better half would join him as a partner and I would be there behind the scenes, coming to pump gas whenever my duties at the World Bank permitted. So Anju, my wife became Surinder’s first working partner. The rest is history. 

Surinder was a unique human being with many endearing qualities. He had a most generous spirit. Always there for you in your hour of need especially all things automotive and the stock market no matter what time of day and place. His integrity and honesty came through consistently in his relationships with others. Everyone who knew him knew his tremendous sense of humor and his always smiling face. Above all, Surinder was a family man – he was a most loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. For me, he was an elder brother and my entire extended family got to know him and considered him as a family too.

I consider myself very fortunate to have had Surinder in my life and benefitted greatly from his friendship and moral support. While I will sorely miss his physical presence I will cherish his memories forever. Rest in peace my dear friend.


     I was fortunate enough to have known Surinder since the 1980's and was his fuel representative for Gulf, Chevron and Liberty.  I always looked forward to seeing him as we would inevitably take a break for a cup of tea and many laughs.  Surinder had a keen wit and a great sense of humor.   I always cherished his recollections of London and Kenya as he was a terrific storyteller.  He had a beautiful attitude about life in general and seemed to take things in stride.  In our fraternity of service station dealers, he was well liked by his peers and respected for his opinions.  He truly was a gem of a human being.  My condolences to Pam, Manjit and Amrit and may they find peace and serenity durng this difficult time.

I will remember Mr Chase fondly - he was always so helpful. Some days I would just stop by the gas station to say Hello even when I didn't need gas or repairs. I pray his soul finds rest and his Family peace.

Dear Pam,
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your dear husband Surinder last week. I can only imagine what a shock it must be to you and your family. Indeed, it was only a couple of weeks ago that I shared a photo of you and Surinder taken 26 years ago when we all visited Taj Mahal in India.
As you know, Surinder and I go back more than 50 years both as close friends and family. In the early 1970s, before he moved to London, we were inseparable, met at least 2-3 times a week and regularly visited, in his VW, Kenya’s world-famous national parks – something we both thoroughly enjoyed.
He will be remembered not only for his generosity, kindness and sense of humor but also for his willingness to share his time with family and friends. It would be difficult to measure the impact he has had on the many people’s lives he touched, personally and professionally.
Once again, I am sorry to have lost such a good and loyal friend.
