I met Thelma while working with her on several Committees through Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.  What a lady! She was so warm and welcoming with a delightful sense of humor and engaging smile. Thelma invited me to join her at a special luncheon or to sit at her table at an OLLI function, she made me feel part of her circle.  I will always cherish that.  I didn't know her long, but, I adored her. May your memories sustain you through these difficult times and forever. Suzanne Brooks


Miss Thellie was the epitome of class.  She was friends with my Mom, Kathie West, and when she found out I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Miss Thellie made it a point to bring sunshine into my toughest days.  

Her sweet notes and sweet gifts were gestures that I have never forgotten. I truly cherished her as my little angel who was always there and made me smile, and my heart feel warm. 

Though our time was brief together, I will miss that sweet, infectious, smile and the warmth she brought into every room she entered.

I always looked forward to seeing "Emah" (I always thought of her as Emah, even though she wasn't my Emah, but that's how I always heard of her) in the lobby of the auditorium or in the auditorium when Bri and Maurissa were involved in Woodson shows. Her smile and pride in her granddaughters were always so bright and evident and she always made me wish I had more time to speak with her. She was a truly delightful woman, and I treasure the moments I could spend with her. Our family sends our condolences and love to all.


Thelma was a very special person.  I will always remember her wonderful smile.  I enjoyed her at OLLI and her sons yearly May Day parties.  She will always be with us.

Dear Ed + Family,
I've been thinking and praying for you recently as I know it must be a difficult time for you and the family. Thelma was an exceptional person and I feel very fortunate to have known + shared many laughs with her.  A strong bond such as the two of you shared will never be broken and you have many happy memories to cherish.  I know how special she was to you and I understand how painful it can be losing a mother so dear to you.  Yet it's comforting to know she was the "real deal" ... a loving mother +  grandmother and therefore the angels will be near to those who are grieving, whispering to them that their loved one is safe in the hands of God. You may feel lonely as I did when my mom passed, but you are never alone. When someone we love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.  May God soothe the sorrow you and your family are feeling, stay strong for the people who love you as well, and take care. Thelma was a larger than life personality, who came into our lives when she was 89 years young. When we think of her, we think first of the enormous love, pride, and adoration she had for her family, and they for her. We think next of the outsized circle of friends whom she loved, and who loved her in equal measure. Her zest for life, capacity for love, strength in the face of adversity, and continuing quest for knowledge inspire us. One of our favorite memories is of Thelma trying out a newly developed virtual reality headset at our 2016 Passover celebration. Rest in peace, Thelma. May memories of her well-lived life be for a blessing, and bring comfort to all of us who mourn.  

Thelma was such a very sweet person.  We were friends through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Fairfax. I sometimes went to her family events.  It was so apparent how much she was loved by all who knew her.  

Thelma was a most wonderful lady who I had the pleasure of spending many years with as a part of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s Reader’s Theater, Drama Club and OLLI Players.  We shared a real love of acting and many times talked about our different “gigs”.  She was a “one of a kind’’ very special friend.  I will miss her and remember her always with a smile.
