For his long service, he was awarded the Business Citizen of the Year award by the McLean Chamber of Commerce in 1996.

He is survived by his children, Sara Hampton and Douglas Gray, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd, McLean, VA 22101 at 11:30 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2020, preceded by a viewing at the church between 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.
