With great sorrow, it is informed that VIMAL DAVE, age 67 years, a resident of Gretna, Louisiana, breathed his last in Washington DC on 24th August 2025 after being hospitalized on account of a minor accident while hiking in the mountains in Virginia.
The youngest of the siblings, he was an ebullient person for whom the family was everything. An affectionate husband to late Judith, a great brother to his siblings, a caring uncle to Tanushree and Kushan and a loving granduncle to Atharva, he was, as his name Vimal suggested, pure at heart. The hardships of life did not deter him. His love flowed unabated to his family and friends.
Having graduated in Commerce, Vimal had worked at a bank before he went into business. His hardworking nature and friendly demeanor resulted in many of his customers becoming his close friends.
Being a foodie (with a sweet tooth) and quite a good cook, he loved to try making Indian sweets and was always successful. He loved music and was fond of vintage Indian film songs. He enjoyed long walks on the banks of river Mississippi in New Orleans and occasionally, took beautiful pictures there. Recently, he clicked some excellent pics of the river which now adorn the walls of homes of family and friends besides a few prominent places in the city.
His penchant for the game of cricket as well as American football knew no bounds. He played cricket in a few minor league-matches and won accolades, and a few trophies too. During his stay in the hospital, he keenly followed this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) matches as well as India-England test match series on his iPad.
A keen wild-life enthusiast and an active member and volunteer at World Wildlife Fund in his younger days, he had a lovely Boston Terrier dog in the past and a beautiful Amazon parrot which he recently gifted away to a friend’s daughter with a medical condition. He had profound knowledge about birds and animals.
He was the darling of the family. On the irreparable loss due to demise of our dear Vimal, we seek solace in the famous quote from Isha Upanishad (an Indian scripture) :
'Vayuranilam amrutamathedam bhasmantam shareeram,
Om, krato smar krutam smar krato smar krutam smar. ‘
(Now, may my breath return to the all-pervading, immortal Prana ! May this body be burnt to ashes ! OM, O mind, remember, remember all that I have done.)
‘Agne naya supatha raye asmanvishvani deva vayunani vidvan,
Yuyodhyasmajjuhuranameno bhuyishtham te nama uktim vidhema.
(O Fire, lead us by the good path for the enjoyment of the fruit of our action. You know, O God, all our deeds. Destroy our sin of deceit. We offer, by words, our salutations to you.)
A funeral service for Vimal will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. The funeral will also be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/live/3Px3EtiEDKM?feature=share
