

He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955. As a member of ROTC, his first military assignment was Nuremburg, Germany. From there he returned to the States to teach in the ROTC program at California Polytechnic Institute in San Luis Obispo where he met his wife, Paula.
After assignments in Korea, Fort Lee, VA and Taiwan, Walt served one year in Vietnam. His tour of duty began in 1971. He received the Bronze Star medal for his service. His final assignments brought him to the Washington, DC area. Walt retired from the military in 1976. He worked in the private sector until 2001. During this time, he earned an MBA, an MPA and a PhD.
Walt is survived by Paula, his wife of 56 years and their three children; Jeanne Akers (Tom), Paul Yewdall (Cindy) and Lynne Bisek (John) and six granddaughters.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00AM on Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. John the Beloved in McLean, VA. Immediately following the Mass there will be a gathering of family and friends at Vinson Hall in the CB Ballroom at 1735 Kirby Road in McLean, VA.
