William “Bill” Walter Poole was not just a father, veteran, and athlete, but a man whose spirit and warmth left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Born in Washington, D.C., to Evelyn Estelle and Lester Howell Poole Sr. on January 20, 1947, Bill grew up in Vienna, VA. Bill was a proud Vietnam War veteran and a tremendous athlete in baseball, football, and wrestling. He was especially proud of being named “Most Athletic” in his Senior Class of 1965 at James Madison High School. Bill married Margo Shostik Poole on May 20, 1972, in Rutherford, N.J., and graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Business a few years later.
Bill’s legacy of kindness, service, and joy continues to inspire all who knew him. His infectious smile, gregarious character, and honest demeanor made him a gifted salesman throughout his career. Beyond his professional life, his enthusiasm and genuine care for others made him a beloved friend, devoted husband, and father.
Bill persevered through life with a smile on his face, always modeling a “never give up” and “have fun” attitude for family and friends. In particular, he instilled these values in his daughters and was their biggest champion. Those who knew Bill will never forget his ear-to-ear grin, hearty laugh, and light-hearted personality.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved siblings, Lester Howell Poole Jr., Patricia Ruth Hancock, and Donald Lee Poole Sr., as well as his dear wife, Margo S. Poole. Their love and influence shaped Bill’s life in profound ways.
Bill is survived by his three daughters, Christine Poole, Katherine Davis, and Karen Ale (John), and three grandchildren, Sophia Ale, Maya Davis, and Arlo Davis. Though Bill has left this world, his spirit remains in the laughter of his grandchildren, in the lessons he taught, and in the hearts of all who loved him.
