Born on March 2, 1927, to Dallas and Katie Young, in Woodville, TX, she lived a long, rich, and meaningful life marked by resilience, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to the people she loved. A proud and dedicated Federal Government employee (Navy Regional Finance Center, 38 years), she embodied strength, loyalty, and service. Her fierce work ethic and determination were matched only by the depth of her compassion.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Jane Senter (Al) of Arlington, VA, and Donna Hoffman (Pete), of Camp Hill, PA. She was a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren: Michael Baggett, Jr, Garner, NC; Pam Morrissey (Adrian Roth), Gettysburg, PA; Cyndi Hoffman, Little Silver, NJ; Paul Hoffman (Megan), Lansdale, PA; Debra Baggett, Minneapolis, MN; and Brian Senter (Perla), Christiansburg, VA; and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Bell, Center, TX; and brothers, Maxie Glen Young (Joyce), Woodville, TX; and Roy Young (Cathy), Conroe, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Don J. Baggett; her son, Michael Baggett, Sr.; brothers R.A. Young and Herman Paul Young. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured love, wisdom, and encouragement into every one of us.
Winnie had a gentle strength that made everyone around her feel seen and supported. She taught us what it means to work hard and to show up for the people who matter. Her legacy lives on in the family she built and the countless lives she touched.
We take comfort knowing she has been reunited with those who went before her, and we will forever carry her spirit in our hearts.
The family would like to thank Capitol Caring Hospice and especially, Augusta, who cared for her and the family on a daily basis. Truly our angel on Earth.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made as donations to Capital Caring (CapitalCaring.org).
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
