Witty, vivacious and lovely, Yvonne Shirley Raben lived a long and adventurous life.
Born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in rural Stouffville, Ontartio, she attended a one-room schoolhouse and saw the Hindenburg fly over the family farm. Yvonne completed business school then modeled, married Walter Kirby and had a daughter, Carol Lynn (Halal). Later she married Keith Turner and worked as a bookkeeper and realtor. In the early Seventies she moved to the US, worked in banking, then as a widow she met and married Jack Raben who shared her love of travel. They spent many winters in Hawaii and for the next 30 years she traveled the world, visiting South America, Great Britain, Europe, Scandinavia and Southeast Asia.
Yvonne’s zest for living was infectious. To her adoring grandchildren, Jason and Aurora Halal, she was an Auntie Mame figure—full of vitality, fun, warmth and encouragement. To her daughter she was a loving and engaged mother. She will be sorely missed.
