Dear Jane, Mary, James, Catherine, and Margaret, 
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to comfort you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. However, you must reach deep within yourselves to find the inner strength and steel nerve to bear the unbearable for next few days. 
The shock and grief will slowly fade and be replaced by the good memories of her that we will carry for the rest of our lives. No one can be truly gone if they live in our memories. 

The days will always be brighter because she existed.

The nights will always be darker because sheâ€™s gone.
 
No matter what anybody says about grief and about time healing all wounds, the truth is: there are certain sorrows that never fade away. 
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To the children of Dottie Rode,

My family first met Dottie at one of the Mary and Andy events in the late sixties.  Since that time Dottie played hostess to us on several occasions including the Worldâ€™s Fair and Terryâ€™s wedding, at which time both she and you children generously shared your homes with us.  She always exhibited a warm enjoyment of having us there.  Her humorous quips would be retold many times.  I can think of no other person who had as many wonderful qualities as she did.

It is these qualities that she was able to pass on to you children.  In recent years whenever we saw her with you, we would witness the same concerns and care she had for other people, being shared by you for her. This ability to have this thoughtfulness and caring is perhaps the best gift she could have given you.  

Your affection for her was always very obvious and your caring for her kept her the loving person she was all of her life.

We are very saddened to hear of her passing.  We are grateful to have known her and pray that she may rest in peace.

Sending so much love to your family. Your mom was so full of life, whit, and love. She will live on forever in the hearts of everyone  who were lucky enough to meet her.

Oh, Catherine: my dear friend, "Rode". I know what great care you lavished on Dorothy. I am holding you and all of your family in my heart. Condolences and hugs to all of you.
