Beloved son-in-law of the late Carmelo Ortiz and the late Bernarda Ortiz. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and amazing friends. Reunited in Heaven with his cherished dog, Blue. Ian graduated from Bethpage High School and continued his education at John Jay University, earning his associate degree in criminal justice. He devoted his life to law enforcement and was very dedicated to serving his community. Throughout his career he worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Department of Veteran Affairs, New York State Criminal Justice Services, the City of Glen Cove, Nassau County Sheriff's Department, Kingston Police Department, and the United States Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons, Amtrak Police. Ian was passionate about body building and went to the gym every single day. He was also a skilled auto-mechanic and was obsessed with cars. Ian loved to travel, visiting Italy and Canada but his favorite destination was Scotland. He also enjoyed going to Fire Island and to his condo in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Being the true “foodie” he was, when he was in Fort Lauderdale, he loved to go to his favorite restaurants, Rosie’s and Peter Pan. For many years, every Sunday, he would go to the Comerford’s house to watch Sopranos and eat Dunkin Donuts and drink tea, where they shared many memories and laughs together. Ian was strong-willed but had a true heart of gold. He was the one everyone turned to when they needed help, and he was consistently there for anyone who needed him. He enjoyed making people laugh, playing jokes and getting a rise out of others. Ian’s family was always his number one priority, and he loved each and every one of them dearly. Ian was a dedicated husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend and he will be forever missed. The family will receive visitors Saturday, July 22nd, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Arthur F.
