GEORGE “MATT” EDWARDS FAYETTEVILLE – George Matthew “Matt” Edwards, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston. Born on October 2, 1932 at Kingston, he was the son of the late George Washington and Edith Phillips Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a member of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill. He was a US Army Veteran and member of American Legion Post 149, Fayetteville. Mr. Edwards was a retired principal and teacher in the Fayette County Schools including Nuttall High School and Fayetteville High School. He was a partner in Vosler-Edwards Insurance Company and belonged to several local organizations. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Earic Edwards and Thomas Edwards; and two sisters, Juanita Edwards and Odessa Wilson. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Dori Vaglio Edwards; brother, James (Betty) Edwards; four nephews, Phillip (Ann ) Edwards, Mike (Julie) Edwards, Adam Edwards, Ryan (Kate) Edwards; two nieces, Jennie (Denis) McNeal and Linda Rains; and several grand nephews and grand nieces. Mass will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 8, 2014 at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill, with Father Carlos officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Friday at the church.
