

GEORGE A. GARTEN George A. Garten, 79, of Fayetteville passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Beckley VA Medical Center, Beckley. Born on December 14, 1935 at Belle, he was the son of the late Albert and Erma Ellen Garten. Mr. Garten was a member of Sunday Road Baptist Church at Hico. He graduated from Dupont High School in 1955. Mr. Garten served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He enjoyed coaching baseball and wood working. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Garten. Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Norma Garten; two sons, George Alan (Clair) Garten of El Dorado, AR and Keith Lee (Julie) Garten of Richwood, WV; one daughter, Iris Ellen (Patrick) Pridemore of Mt. Hope, WV; nine grandchildren: Andrea, Dakota, Maci, Cherokee, Kyli, Codi, Garrett, Austin, and Cora; three great-grandchildren: Blaine, Marleigh, and Blaikli; and sister, Rosemary Proctor. Funeral services will be 1 PM, Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Allen Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Thursday.
