Larry Lee Lhotka, 60, of Fillmore passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on January 6, 2017, after a six year battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born in Fosston, Minnesota on December 3, 1956, the fifth of ten children to Frank Kenneth and Patricia (Bregel) Lhotka. He was raised in Grand Portage, Minnesota and graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1974.
In 1985, he married his beloved wife, Julie (Moody) with whom he had three sons. He was a man of many trades, including truck driver and heavy equipment operator, before becoming general manager of a paving company, BC Rincon Construction.
He found joy in hunting, fishing, NASCAR races, the MN Vikings and spending time with family and friends. He was very active in the Fillmore football community as a coach and fan of his sons. There is not anyone he met that didn’t become a lifelong friend. His favorite title was “Poppos” to his grandson Carter.
No one loved life more than Larry. He treated each day as a blessing and woke up everyday with a smile. He enjoyed the last year spending time with his wife Julie in Wenatchee, WA caring for his father in law.
Larry is survived by his wife Julie; three sons Thomas (Erica), Kenneth (Alyssa) and Carson (Anissa); grandson Carter; sisters and brothers, Peggy (Jeff), Duane (Laurie), Doug (Darlene), Frank (Janet), Karen (Morteza), Carol, Kenny (Kathy), Ron, and Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Bob Cukla, and nephew Tylor Omang.
Services will be held at Skillin-Carrol Mortuary in Fillmore on Wednesday, January 11th at 3:00 p.m.
