Alexander (Alex) A. Panzano, 60, originally of West Orange and Wallington, NJ, most recently living in Palm Coast, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Halifax Medical Center in Florida, surrounded by his family. He fought a valiant four-year battle against Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.
Alex grew up in West Orange, NJ, and after graduating from West Orange High School, he attended Lincoln Technical school earning a certification in automobile mechanics. He later attended Katharine Gibbs College where he completed IT technician training and was on the National Honor Society.
Alex loved cars and was an auto mechanic for over twenty years, a car salesman for Fette Ford, and later a Service Manager for Mavis Discount Tire. For a time, he was also a real estate appraiser, and worked in a family deli. Throughout his life Alex surrounded himself with the things he loved most, his family and cars – whether his own (his prized red Camaro) or the model cars he would put together and collect. His drink of choice was what he called an “Italian 15” more commonly referred to as a Seagram’s 7 & 7-Up.
A die-hard Giants fan, Alex enjoyed spending time with his family, movies, watching his favorite TV shows (usually comedies) and making other people laugh. He was a quiet man, but when he had something to say, his keen sense of humor came forward. Whatever he did say was worth hearing and usually made you feel better, smile, or laugh out loud. He’s was a gentle, kind and caring man who had a way of connecting with people that endeared them to him instantly.
Alex was predeceased by his mother, Corona Marraffino Panzano and father, Vittorio Panzano. Surviving are his beloved wife of 26 years, Mary Ellen Wallar-Panzano, sons Alexander Panzano and fiancé Andri Brito Jones, and Nicholas Panzano; his sister Mary Lou Panzano and husband, John Bujalski; his brother Matthew Panzano, and wife, Robin; his brothers-in-law Andy Wallar and wife Ani, and Frank Wallar, and sister-in-law, Valerie Gibbons and husband, Jim. He was a beloved godfather to Isabella Napolitano and Raymond DelGaudio and uncle to Matthew Panzano, Drew Wallar, Sandra Wallar, Christine Brackett, Christopher Gibbons, Kara Morris, Alexander Wallar, and Amy Wallar.
There will be a viewing on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 10 am ET followed by a funeral at 11 am ET at Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church, 17 Buckskin Lane, Ormand Beach, FL. Condolences can be sent to www.craigflaglerpalms.com
