Born on February 25, 1947, in Daytona, Florida, Scott was the beloved son of James and Virginia King Crews. A lifelong resident of Flagler County, Scott graduated from Bunnell High School and went on to attend Florida State University, where he studied business.
After college, Scott traveled extensively across the United States before returning to his roots in Flagler County. He began his professional career at ITT, where he met the love of his life, Melanie. He later joined his grandfather, C.B. King, at the Bunnell Cypress Company, eventually taking over the business and serving as its dedicated owner until his retirement in 1997.
A respected figure in the sawmill industry and the greater business community, Scott left a lasting legacy of leadership, integrity, and entrepreneurial spirit. In retirement, he pursued his love of the water—boating and fishing with his sons, grandsons, and traveling to the Bahamas aboard his boat. Scott built a house on Green Turtle Cay where he and his family visited often, always excited to eat Bahamian bread. He was a passionate supporter of college athletics, especially the Florida State Seminoles.
Scott was deeply committed to the Flagler County community. He served on numerous boards and was a key member of the boards of Cypress Bank and RBC Bank. He was also a founding member and early investor in Intracoastal Bank. Scott and his family were proud supporters of the Josh Crews Writing Project, a literacy initiative established in memory of his late son, Josh—a cause close to his heart.
In later years, Scott embraced the role of caregiver to his beloved wife, Melanie, with unwavering love and devotion.
He is survived by his two sons, Matthew (Melissa) Crews of Palm Coast and Adam Crews of Bunnell; Grandaddy to, Julianna (Alex), Aaron (Savannah), Isaiah (Emily), Ian (Cara), Cullen and Coy Crews. He will also be remembered fondly by extended family, friends, former colleagues, and countless individuals whose lives he touched.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Melanie, and his son Joshua.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, July 31, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach.
