Doris Lee Day, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the age of 93 in Palm Coast, Florida. Born on February 7, 1932, in Barbourville, Kentucky, Doris lived a full life marked by kindness, creativity, and dedication to those around her.
Doris was a devoted wife to Robert (Bob) Allen Day, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage until his passing 25 years ago. As a mother, she raised her sons, Robert A. Day II and Scott B. Day, with care, teaching them the values of compassion and strength that guided her life. Doris rose above her own difficult childhood to give her sons a much better life.
Doris had 6 uncles and an aunt on her mother’s side that helped her through her childhood. Those uncles were more like big brothers to her. She spoke often about the happy times spent on her grandfather’s farm in Kentucky with them.
A social and creative woman, Doris found joy in crocheting, quilting, and painting, crafts that reflected her thoughtful nature. After her sons grew, she dedicated time to volunteering at a Christian home in Riverton, NJ, where her presence brought comfort to many. Later, she joined a bowling league, forming lasting friendships that enriched her days with laughter and connection.
In 1980, Doris faced advanced breast cancer with courage. Following a radical mastectomy and radiation, she overcame the illness and went on to support other women facing similar challenges, offering guidance and empathy. Though the emotional weight of this work eventually led her to step back, her efforts left a lasting impact.
Doris is survived by her sons, Robert A. Day II and Scott B. Day, along with Robert’s wife, Suzanne Day, and their daughters, Lisa Michelle Cooper and Lauren Ann Bonomo, as well as Lauren’s husband, Kevin, and their children, Holly and Rory. She is also survived by Scott’s wife, Jill A. Day, and their sons, Dr. Ryan S. Day and Dr. Cody R. Day, along with Ryan’s wife, Dr. Diana Day, and their children, Lincoln and Aviana, and Cody’s wife, Dova H. Day, and their children, Lilah, Brady, and Gavin. Doris was proceeded in death by her brother, John Tedders.
