

Edgar Yancey Walter, Jr., known as, E.Y. passed away at his home in Palm Coast after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on November 7, 2023 at the age of 89. E.Y. was very active in his Catholic faith that he practiced at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach and loved the Knights of Columbus with his participation in all events sponsored by them. He was a Grand Knight, District Warden and Sir Knight and served in many other official positions during his tenure. At the church, E.Y. oversaw the Ushers and Golf Cart drivers for all masses, was Project Manager for the construction projects on the church property, ran the Bingo with participation by many Knights every single Tuesday with proceeds going to the church. At one point he had earned the nickname of the Mayor of Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church.
E.Y. was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia and was born on September 28, 1934. He was predeceased by his parents Edgar Y. Walter, Sr. and Edith Grace Walter, his siblings Betty Lacey and Noel Walter and his first wife Barbara Rose Walter, the mother of his 3 children.
E. Y. is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon Duncan Walter, 3 children, Stephen (Katherine), Cheryl (Jack), Wayne (Laura), 6 grandchildren, Joni, Barbara, Dana, Virginia, Katherine and John, and 10 great-grandchildren. He also has a special niece, Sharon Pollock and a special nephew, Eric Duncan.
E.Y. and Sharon moved to Flagler Beach, Florida in 1997 and have enjoyed their lives in the Florida sunshine to the fullest. Golf, surf-fishing, and KOC dances are just some of the many activities he did. He thoroughly enjoyed managing a hardware store where he hired his other retired friends to work. They all loved it too. We made a new family of friends in Flagler Beach.
Many years ago, E. Y. was a star football and baseball player at George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated from GWHS in 1952.
A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00am at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach, Florida.
