

Elizabeth “Betty” Caroline Benyon, 86, of Palm Coast passed away peacefully on August 26, 2018. Betty was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and friend. Born January 18, 1932 in Burlington, NJ to Mary (Grant) Witherow and Wilson W. Witherow, she attended Trenton Central High School in Trenton, NJ. In 1948, at a high school dance, she met her future husband, Carl. After marrying in 1951 they went on to enjoy almost 66 years of marriage together and shared two daughters, Deborah and Donna. Betty had a 30 year career with Educational Testing Services in Princeton, NJ, beginning as a clerk and rising to an administrative assistant. Upon retirement in1989, she and her husband moved to from Ewing, NJ to Palm Coast. Betty was very active in her community joining Palm Coast United Methodist Church and took great joy in her involvement with the United Methodist Women. She and her husband spent many years volunteering with Florida Hospital Flagler’s Auxiliary service and they were twice co-named Florida Volunteer of the Year. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her 7 sisters and 1 brother. Betty is survived by her daughters Deborah Lee (Benyon) O’Neal, Donna Lynn (Benyon) Shely; grandchildren, John O’Neal, Michael Maffei, Erin (O’Neal) Alford, Carla (Maffei) Nishikura; 15 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018, 10:00 AM at Palm Coast United Methodist Church.
