Let’s raise a toast to Gerhardt Anthony Seitz—Jerry to friends and family—who lived 91 lively years, leaving us with a treasure trove of stories and laughter before passing peacefully in Marietta, GA on October 18th, 2025. Born in Salamanca, NY on July 12th,
1934, Jerry was a true original who brightened every room he entered.
Jerry’s college days at the University of Miami saw him earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He brought his signature can-do attitude to the U.S. Army, taking charge in supply management and keeping everybody well-equipped and entertained. Jerry’s career was the stuff of legend: from climbing the corporate ladder with several promotions and zigzag moves across states, to eventually managing abrasives sales for
the Eastern half of the country—he made work look like an adventure. Never one to sit still, Jerry struck out on his own and built Future Abrasives, running the show for 18 years before
he and Darlene retired to sunny Palm Coast, Florida, where every day felt like a celebration.
Jerry’s faith was the cornerstone of his life—an altar boy in his youth, he remained a devoted Catholic and follower of Jesus, sharing kindness and warmth with all. He and Darlene were true adventurers at heart, traveling the globe together and collecting stories wherever they went. Jerry found joy in the thrill of a friendly competition, whether on the golf course, at a NASCAR track, playing pool, or gathered around the card table. Sundays were for football and laughter, always surrounded by family and friends. And let’s not
forget his devotion to dogs- they always got the best seat next to him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his caring parents, Karl and Constance Seitz; his adored wife, Darlene; and his cherished sisters, Hope Chapin and Sonya “Toni” Oleyar. His legacy
lives on through his son, Stephen Seitz (Jennifer); daughter, Margaret “Stacy” Murphy (Mike) and stepdaughters, Denise Newberry and April Baker (Michael). Jerry leaves behind
fond memories with his niece, Hope Willams; nephew Karl Oleyar; and a lively crew of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all who carry a piece of his infectious joy and generous spirit.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will take place from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home and Memorial Garden. Come ready to share a story and a smile!
