James Robert West 75, of Flagler Beach, passed away on March 8, 2021. He was born on May 14, 1945 in Palatka, Florida to the late Aris Grover and Mary Margaret West (Wood). James served in the US Army during Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. After he was honorably discharged, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Stetson University. James spent his entire career as a 3rd & 4th grade teacher in Bunnell and Wadsworth Elementary Schools. He was a devoted member of Salty Church in Flagler Beach. James enjoyed surfing and fishing, model airplanes, wood carving, he enjoyed traveling, camping, riding his motorcycle, he was an avid reader, he was also an artist who created paintings and drawings. His greatest love was spending time with his beloved family. His family is left to cherish many wonderful memories. James was preceded in death by his sister, Nadine Revels, and brother Lee West. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol; children, Jennifer West and her husband Matthew Hogan, Jeremy and his wife Juli West, Robert and his wife Christina West, Jacob and his wife Victoria West, Rebecca and her husband Ryan Middleton; grandchildren, Aiden West, Emily West, Sam West, Addison Middleton, Noah Middleton, Mya West, Eli West, Sage West and one grandchild on the way by the name of Everly; sister, Margaret and her husband Dub West, Hal and Glenda Griffis, David and Nancy Griffis, Paul and Clara Griffis, Myrtle Hill, Tim and Tash Griffis and many more loving nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends.
