Hospice Care on June 2, 2021 at the age of 74.
John was born in Dowagiac, MI in 1947 to Chuck and Irene Moden where he lived until
he entered Michigan Tech and graduated with a degree in Engineering. After college, he
worked for a brief time in Chicago before the US Army invited him to join their ranks.
After basic training, he served in Germany and completed his military service as a
Sargent.
John married Patsy Sellers in Terre Haute, IN in May of 1977. They honeymooned in
Daytona Beach and were so enamored with the area that John accepted a position with
ITT and they moved to Palm Coast that same year. Over the next 38 years, John held a
number of positions from V.P. of Engineering (ITT), Director of the Palm Coast Service
District, and retired in 2015 as the Director of Engineering and Storm Water
Management for the City of Palm Coast.
John was very proud of his community and enjoyed working to make it a better place.
He was always ready to lend a helping hand and to volunteer to work on many
committees throughout the years. He enjoyed working with Palm Coast Rotary and
was an Elder in the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
He loved living in Palm Coast and enjoyed fishing, boating, bird watching, water sports
and tennis. Most of all he loved his family: wife Patsy and sons Curtis and Luke and he
was always available for them as a supportive husband and father.
John leaves behind sisters Linda Hutchison and Jill Varga and nieces and nephews, Jason
Hutchison, Jennifer Varga Parrett, Holly Klus McClellan, Grace Sophia Sellers, John
Douglas Hardy and Matthew Glen Hardy, and Yeeun An, their international exchange
student from South Korea.
Craig Funeral Home will hold a viewing on Thursday, June 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm
and there will be a Celebration of John's Life at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Friday,
June 11th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Flagler Humane
Society, 1 Shelter Dr, Palm Coast, Fl 32137 or Halifax Hospice, 235 Booth Rd, Ormond
Beach, FL 32174.
