Joseph Roy Burbrink, 49, of Flagler Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at 10:47 a.m., following a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on August 12, 1976, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Roy D. Burbrink and Lynda C. (Buffington) Burbrink.
Joe is survived by his cousins who were like siblings to him: his “sister,” Jaime Buffington Billings and her husband, John; his “brother,” Jimmy Buffington and his wife, Jessica; and his cherished “nieces and nephews,” Camden Billings, Ivabella Billings, Courtney DeMont and Cole Filson. He is also survived by cousins Thomas Gallant, Donald Gallant, Beth Jerabek, Jill Jerabek, and Torie (Tim) Filson; his aunt, Meri Anne Buffington; his uncle, Mark Burbrink; and his aunts, Ruth Ann (Tom) Gallant and Carol Beth (Ned) Jerabek.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy, in 2013; his uncle, Mike Buffington, in 2016; his niece, Ashley DeMont, in 2017; and his mother, Lynda, in 2020.
Joe was a proud graduate of Plymouth High School’s Class of 1995—infamously known as the “95ers”—and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University in 1999.
A passionate and dedicated educator, Mr. Burbrink spent 25 years teaching marine science and biology at Flagler Palm Coast High School. A proud Bulldog, he was deeply committed to his students and school community. He lived by two simple classroom rules: always be a Bulldog, and The Golden Rule- to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Joe had a rare gift for connecting with people and was known for his genuine kindness, enthusiasm, and unwavering support.
Joe was a true lover of life, with a deep passion for music, the joy of live concerts and attending live sporting events especially at Wrigley Field watching his favorite, the Chicago Cubs. His record collection was more than a hobby—it was a reflection of a life filled with memories and moments shared with others. An avid vinyl collector, his favorite group was The Beatles, his favorite artist was Bob Dylan, and his favorite song—Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da—“No more questions”.
He found peace and happiness at the beach, often taking long bike rides and soaking in the sunshine. Whether grilling on the patio or gathering with friends, Joe created an atmosphere where everyone felt welcome. He also enjoyed collecting hats, T-shirts and the Chicago Cubs.
Joe’s greatest joy came from the people in his life—his family, friends, colleagues, students, fellow “95ers,” and his Avalon Crew. Above all, he cherished time spent surrounded by those he loved. His warmth, laughter, and gift for bringing people together will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The Florida Celebration of Life will be held at Finn’s Beachside Pub in Flagler Beach on Monday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. There will be an Indiana Celebration of Life announced at a later date.
