“Among the numerous luxuries of the table...coffee may be considered as one of the most valuable. It excites cheerfulness without intoxication; and the pleasing flow of spirits which it occasions...is never followed by sadness, languor or debility.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
Born on March 21, 1938, in Paterson, New Jersey. His life of public service began shortly after high school where he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, Joe continued his public service with the Passaic County Sherriff’s Department, Paterson, New Jersey. He retired as a Lieutenant after 30 years of service. He is an alumnus of William Paterson University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Administration.
In 1955, he packed up his Chevy Convertible (aka Joe’s Junker), for the simple reason to “fix it up in warmer weather,” and found himself in Daytona Beach, Florida. He immediately fell in love with the “World’s Most Favorite Beach.” At age 17, he decided then and there that he would retire in this beautiful beach community.
He moved to Flagler Beach in 2001 and built his hurricane proof, (to Miami/Dade County standards) dream house in 2006. He has shared many memories with his family and friends in a house that became a concept when he was 17 years old.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (LaSalle) Vos and Joseph Vos, Sr., his brother, Ralph Vos and his sister Catherine (Vos) Anthony.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Marie (Grano) Vos and his daughter Angela Marie Vos McCormick (husband, Eric); grandchildren, Rachel (Mack) McCormick and Jarred Patrick McCormick; and nephew Tony Anthony, Jr. (wife, Jean); as well as many loving relatives and cherished friends.
Joe will be remembered for his love of coffee, sips of wine, chess prowess, newspapers, Time Magazine, Consumer Report, quick wit with a hint of sarcasm, and the love and care he had for his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, any contributions may be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Flagler Beach, (P.O. Box 1328, Flagler Beach, FL 32136).
