Lois was born in Hyndsville, New York on August 18, 1929 to her mother, Antoinette and Leslie Brown. Lois was an adorable daughter, dedicated wife, and loving mother and grandmother. Her strong spirit and giving nature brightened the days of all who knew her. As a girl growing up in Hyndsville, New York, she loved riding her bike and playing the piano. She was very active in the Hyndsville Methodist Church. Her brother, Leslie, is five years older and resides in Cobleskill.
She attended high school at Cobleskill Central School and became a dietician after attending, New York State Institute of Home Economics, now named State University of New York in Cobleskill. She and Carl, her soul mate, met in Rochester, NY, where she was working as a dietician at Highland Hospital. They wed in the Asbury First Methodist Church on May 26, 1956. Following their honeymoon in Washington D.C. and Virginia Beach, they returned to Rochester, where Carl continued his studies at Rochester Institute of Technology. She continued her career as a dietician, until the birth of her first son. Her new roles as homemaker, mother, and wife defined her, but words cannot describe how many lives she touched.
Together, Lois and Carl raised two sons: Mark Norman and Bruce Alan. Her interest in volunteering continued. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, flower arranging and photography. After moving to North Carolina, where she and Carl lived for 20 years, Lois became active in volunteering at the elementary school and the Presbyterian Home in High Point. She and Carl moved to Midlothian, VA for a few years before retiring to their dream home in Palm Coast, FL.
In Palm Coast, Lois found a new career as a hostess with the local welcoming company. Her warm personality and ease with which she gave friendly advice, allowed her to meet many strangers who became good friends. She found a community that gave back to her as much as she gave to it.
She made many dear friends and always gave generously of herself by baking cakes and cookies, arranging flowers and making cards from her photographs. She is known for her delicious “Nanny” cookies and her fruitcake. Her warmth and strength gave many family and friends comfort.
The joy from her grandchildren was especially visible; she loved spending holidays with them and visiting for special occasions. Audrey Holloman, Phillip Jackson Reed, Landon Turner Reed and Chad Nicholas Reed, were the loves of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in her name to the Friends of the Library of Flagler County.
The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 3 at 2pm, at the Cypress Knoll Golf & Country Club. 53 Easthampton, Palm Coast.
