

Norma Erica McCarthy was born at St. DaCre St. Ann Jamaica West Indies, November 10, 1940. The eighth child of the late Albert and Muriel Johnson. She attended basic school at St. DaCre and then went on to Mico Practicing All Age School in Kingston, Jamaica.
Other from her studies she was a track and field star, who won several medals. At the age of 13 she returned to St. DaCre where she finished her studies until grade 12 at Bethany Primary School. She worked at the St. DaCre Postal Agency under the supervision of her friend Mrs. Vesta Sterling (deceased).
She married her best friend Colin McCarthy on December 21, 1963. Norma migrated to the US in 1966 and husband followed in 1967. She worked for the New York Telephone Company as a telephone operator for a few years. After leaving, she went to CNA school to be a Certified Nursing Assistant. After gaining her certification she worked for Astor Gardens Nursing Home for a number of years until she moved to Palm Coast in 1989.
In Palm Coast she worked at Flagler Pines Nursing Home, and Moultrie Creek Nursing Home in St. Augustine until she retired in 2013. She was a hard worker, who loved taking care of her patients, even when she retired she would think about them.
When she came to Palm Coast, she became a member of the Palm Coast United Methodist Church. She loved to sing, although her voice was always out of tune. For her recreation she loved going on cruises, going bowling, and watching TV every moment she got. Her special soaps are All My Children, and General Hospital.
She was a loving caring wife, and mother. Surviving her are her husband Colin of 57 years, son, Deny, daughters, Leonie, Andrea, Nyree; Six grandchildren; Eight Great-Grandchildren. Her brother Ashmore (Joye), sisters, Carmen (Watney), Myrtle (Rupert), Delrose, Unel (Ronald), Lucetta (Llyod) Cordel and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Muriel, Brothers, Lukey, Nevins, Gauntlett and a sister Lillian.
