David E. Peck was a brilliant man. He was born August 7th, 1957, in Ann Arbor, MI. He was always exploring and learning. As the son of an engineer Air force Major who served in Vietnam and a stay-at-home mom, he spent his childhood near Air Force bases in California, Oklahoma, and Georgia. At 16, David got a job at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia driving a VW golf ball collecting machine. That is where he learned to drive. In addition, he worked on base at the NCO club. Also at age 16 as a National Merit Scholar, he was accepted and matriculated into the University of Southern California. While there, he studied everything from philosophy and religion to physics. On a business trip to Hughes Aircraft Company his father was asked about his boys. He mentioned that David was at USC working with a professor. Hughes hired him two days later. David graduating from USC in 1980 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He met his first wife, Jane, at USC and married her on April 5, 1980. Dave enjoyed skiing and sailing, and went motorcycling in the hills of Topanga Canyon. While living in California, Dave won several awards for racing sailboats, a hobby which he reminisced fondly over after transferring with Digital Equipment Corporation to Colorado Springs in 1985. After 8 years his daughter Bailey was born. Three years later, his son Kilian was born. Both follow in their father's footsteps with intelligence and a quick wit.
His 35-year career as a computer engineer took him through several Tech companies in the Springs after Digital closed their doors, including MCI, Compac, and ended as a senior engineer at Hewlett-Packard. As a father, he brought an engineer's perspective to every science project, which meant that each took twice the time, were twice as ugly, but always won. In 1998, he met and married his soul mate Andi, who for some reason understood his humor (or maybe he understood hers).
Together, they spread humor, laughter, love, and lightness. They traveled extensively by train, finding favorite new places and making memories. Dave loved spicy food, dogs, music, and technology. But more than anything, Dave loved Andi. She was his rock, supporting him in sickness and in health. The world has lost a brilliant man, a beloved father and husband, and a thousand jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Andi, his children Bailey and Kilian, his parents George and Velma, his brother John and sister-in-law Gillian, his stepson Brian and daughter-in-law Heather, his grandson Evan, and countless friends.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11th from 5-7 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 12th, 2015, at 3 PM, both at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. In Michigan, a visitation will be held at the Reigle Funeral Home on Monday November 16th from 9 to 11 AM followed with a service at 11 AM. Dave's final resting place will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint, MI.
