Dear Arlene and Family,
I am  so sorry for your loss. I graduated from Flint Central in 1981 and Jack was and still is my favorite teacher of all time, in fact I think if not for him being my teacher I wonder how my life would have turned out as I think Jack saw in me that I needed a bit more structure in my life and he talked with me extensively about joining the Army which I did and am forever grateful and a better person for his advice, I visited Jack at Flint Central when I came home on leave and he had me talk to one of his classes, the last time I ever saw Jack was when he lived across the road from one of my business partners (Don Snizik) in Flushing. If memory serves me right I think we bought a Chevrolet Chevette from him. My prayers will be with you and your family, And I just want to thank you for sharing Jack as a teacher with all of his past students and me. and I'm sure all of his past students would agree that we  are better people today because Jack was in our lives in the past.

So sorry for your loss.  The Colonel was a great friend and colleague.  He will be remembered fondly.

We never know how much a person means to us until we lose them.  Jack was such an integral part of the Flint Male Chorus for seventeen years, urging attendance and attention. "Listen Up" will be our key phrase of remembrance for many years to come.  Thanks for sharing him with us.

Mr. Ewing was my senior year study hall teacher at NW in 67. He was witty and bright and a joy. I last saw him at Meijers in the late 90's and he was still the delightful gentleman.What a loss and yet what an example for all the young people who crossed his path.

 I know I speak for all the residents of the Glenns of Squire Lake when I say that Jack will be greatly missed.  He always had that big smile for everyone and was always willing to help.  For several years he watched for burned out lights on the condo grounds and replaced them. We will all miss seeing him walking the dog. Our sincere condolences to Arlene and the entire family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Ewing's passing.  He was my 6th grade music teacher, 7th grade science teacher (Zimmerman Elementary and Jr. High School, my 9th grade Social Studies teacher at Longfellow Jr. High School, and my 12th grade US History Teacher at Central High.  He was always someone I respected, and enjoyed having as a teacher. He was a kind, thoughtful, and caring teacher.  I have thought of him many times over the years, and know that he truly is resting in the arms of Jesus.  Our prayers are with the family, God bless you during this time. Dear Gramps,

I don't even know where to start!  You have been a constant presence in my life since the day I was born!  You were always a huge part of my life and you will continue to be a huge part of my life, especially as I graduate from seminary and get ordained.  You were my biggest fan!

I will never forget the past 31 years because you taught me so much, but I look forward to the years ahead, especially when I start my ministry.  You had the strongest faith of anyone I have ever known.  I won't ever forget that Gramps.

I had no idea that our time together up north was our last.  I greatly enjoyed that time, Gramps!  You were very concerned about my health, especially since I was carrying around a drain that wasn't working.  You were also very interested in my seminary life, as always.  I graduate a year from this December, Gramps, and I know you'll be there.

We'll take good care of Grams!  Love you Gramps!

Jack was one of the most loyal, caring, kind people I ever met.  We had great times together as teaching, coaching and golfing partners for many years at Central.  I will always remember his calm demeanor on the sidelines, his great love for his family and his FIRM handshake.  Jack will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Thanks for all the amazing Labor Day weekends in Sweets Point.  Jack, you and Arlene always made our clan feel like part of the family.  May you look down from your Father's house and smile on us all.

Where does one being.  Only knowing you a few years I have learned something.  Talking with you I knew what kind of man you are.  You are a man of service, as a military officer, as a teacher, coach, and mentor.  I knew and could tell you cared about people.  Anyone whom serves must care or their life would be miserable.  The way you would smile and the strength I had seen from you.  I knew you were an honorable caring man.  Now as I sit here, not sure of how to express this or write this.   I realize I don't have to write anything.  It's all in here the signatures and well washings' of people from your past and present.  Bruce Lee once said, "The key to immortality is living a life worth remembering".  Well Mr. Ewing, it is obvious you have touched lives spanning decades long.  In ways not even imagined or seen.  There is no better mentor, who can have a greater affect on a person's life than a teacher, a coach, a leader.  Jack you have, and will continue to touch lives of many.  The lives you have touched have spun into others and the lessons and wisdom learned are passed on. Not only have you met Bruce Lee's Idea of immortality, you have surpassed it.  I know you are a man of faith and thereby you are saved.  So God Bless Jack, good job.  See you on the other side someday.

Our condolences and prayers for the Ewing family on the passing of Jack. Many people and experiences help to mold young people into their lives path. Jack was one of those people for myself and our family. Working with Jack on the field as a player and in the entire educational setting in such a positive way,influenced greatly my decision to teach and coach at the secondary level.He cared,knew when to push and when to mold. His favorite quote in game preparation still rings in many of his linemen's ears,"LEAN AND MEAN." Thanks,Jack.

jack was the kindest and most encouraging  man i ever knew.  he encouraged my love of history in the 4th floor " tower" at flint central.  he told me that those who don't learn the mistakes of history are bound to repeat them.   when i signed my athletic scholarship to cmu, i never saw anyone so proud.....he bragged me up to everyone.  a great man whose life will always be celebrated in my heart.  The one sport I wasn't good at was basketball.....he said I probably dribbled better as a baby LOL and would laugh.  Funny, tough when he had to be, he had everyone's love and respect.

I haven't seen Mr. Ewing since I graduated from NW High in 1967, but he was one of the most memorable teachers and coaches I ever had. I'll always remember the time he took a poll among the students in Social Studies class around 1966 as to whether we should be in the Vietnam War (the anti-war movement was years away). Mr. Ewing had depth of character, besides being a great guy. He will be missed.

I will miss you very much but feel blessed to have you known you in my life! You were an inspiration to me! I loved to listen to you sing! You had a beautiful voice! Your family will miss you as well but know you are in a much better place! We love you

So sorry to read about Jacks passing.  I knew him as a coach and teacher for many years.  He had a great way with young people and I know was a positive influence on many of them.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Jack was my 2nd cousin by marriage but he was always "Uncle Jack" to me--he's been family longer than I've been alive.  I knew him first for his smile and second for his cigars...as I grew older I began to admire him for who he was: an outstanding man, father, husband, Colonel, Coach, History teacher, and just all around good guy--and darn handy with a gavel!  Although we never sang officially together, we shared the love of great choral direction.  I will miss you, Jack. All of my love and prayers go to Aunt Arlene and all of my cousins. Blessings to you, Uncle Jack.  You were an inspiration and you will be missed.

Being a flint southwestern grad in 1970, my first memories of Jack were seeing him running onto the atwood stadium field ,as a couple of years passed i would see Jack at the army reserve center for our monthly meetings.I did not know Jack personally at that time.Fortunately when i started working at Delehanty Pontiac in 2000 our paths crossed again,Jack was one of our drivers,we began sharing old flint sports stories, i new a lot of the same people Jack had coached and so we had lot's of stories to share. What an awesome coach!  He never got rattled, even when we were down 21 points in 1986 to Northwestern.  We won that game, in part, because he helped us to stay positive and to never give up.  He was a great role model and teacher, and I am thankful to have known him.

Hi Gramps,
I'm not good at this, but I'll try. I have so many great memories of you. You were always in the stands cheering us girls on during our basketball and soccer games and you were always in the audience at my high school band concerts. You were there when we were born, you were there when we graduated high school, and you were there for weddings. It's hard to imagine that you won't be "there" for any more milestones (like great grand kids).

We had a lot of good times didn't we, Gramps? Remember teaching us girls how to dive in your pool on Dutchmill Drive? How about the time you took Rebecca and I fishing up north at the cottage and we got our lines wrapped together under the boat? "Wine time" was always the best with you - you always made sure my cup was full & you would laugh if I couldn't walk straight when we went in for dinner afterward. I remember when I even got you to play "May I" once up at the cottage- and it was just once. You got so frustrated and didn't want to finish the game. I think I get that from you. :)

I know you are already in Heaven watching over us. I'm also sure you're looking down with love and pride at the family you built. You can rest assured that we will never forget what you taught us and that we will pass down those lessons to our children and grandchildren.

I know I can speak for all of your grandchildren - Rebecca, Lindsay, Ashleigh, Shona, Catriona, Chloe, Noah, Diana, Jackson, Jon, and myself - when I say we miss you, but we will never forget you, because you have imprinted yourself permanently on our hearts. We love you.

Louise and I remember Jack and the choir in Flint.  We had a fine time during my director during the many years.  Jack was always a dependable part of the choir.  Arlene was also a great part of our choir life.  We are thinking of you especially now during this time.  Our sympathies are with you.  Here's to our great memories of you and Jack.

Jack is an example of a great man: strong yet compassionate with a passion for his family, his faith, and the joy of life. He has left a legacy with the Flint Male Chorus through his leadership and his friendship to all the chorus members. I met Jack approx 8 years ago at the Flushing Schools. To this day everytime he saw me he greeted me with a kiss and a hug...and always asked if I was "keeping Hubbard's afloat". I miss him already.
