Albert J. Donohoe

Born on September 29th perpetually 29 years ago to parents Albert Edward Donohoe of Cavan, Ireland and Ellen (Elsie) Manning Donohoe of Mullingar, Ireland, Albert (Al) James Donohoe was the third of nine siblings who grew up in a two-bedroom apartment in Astoria, Queens. The Donohoe family were parishioners and students at St. Joseph’s, also in Astoria.

Al joins his parents and siblings, Capt. Charles V. Donohoe, John (Jack) Donohoe, Kathleen, and Maureen, and granddaughter, Margaret Katherine, in paradise. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Veronica (Collins) Donohoe and five children, Tom (Kimberly), Matt (Wendy), Maryann (Randy), Catherine Ellen (Ryan), and Mary Grace; eight grandchildren Karalee (Kris), Adrienne (Shaun), Jennifer, James, Emily (Harrison), Phoenix (Beth), Luke, and Lilliana; seven great grandchildren Memphis, Jaxson, Willow, Willy, Wyatt, Elizabeth, and Charlotte; siblings Terry (Jackie), Tom (Pat), Brian (Peggy), and Monica (Jerry); and sisters-in-law Geri and Pat. A fiercely loved husband of 38 years, Al was also a cherished father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

In his most joyful moments, Al could be found bike riding along the Delaware river or on Long Boat Key in Florida with his wife and ending the day with boxed red wine over ice in a coffee tumbler. With his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he could be found teaching “round ball” or tinkering with a variety of toys. Al was generous (sometimes to a fault) and enjoyed giving both solicited and unsolicited financial advice and collecting credit card points. On his many travels with his wife and family, Gumby was always close by. He would hope we all remember him at the sight of a dance floor, where he’d always be the first on the floor with his beautiful bride.

Al was a father-figure to so many and his enduring love will live in the hearts of everyone who was privileged to know and love him. ☘️🚴🏼😎

The visitation for Albert will be held at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Blvd Flushing, NY 11358 on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Church 175-20 74th Ave Fresh Meadows, NY 11366, on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 10:30 am.
