A devoted Christian, Bertha Papes enjoyed sunrises as the warmth from its rays on her face made her feel as if she was being touched by the hand of Christ. On Saturday, February 11, 2012 sunset came to Bertha’s wonderful life, as her Lord and Savior extended His hand for the final time and led His devoted follower through the gates of Heaven.
She was 90.
Born in 1921, Bertha was the daughter of James and Ethel Paskalides.
A child of the depression, Bertha gained strength and guidance from her unwavering faith, which remained with her throughout her life.
A lover of music and the arts – and consummate people watcher – she enjoyed many weekends on the resort circuit in the Catskills watching her husband George’s orchestra play, a love that is now reunited with her passing.
A caring mother, Bertha is survived by her two loving daughters, Victoria Papes of Queens and Christine Papes-Jobsky of Syracuse. She is also survived by several cousins and close friends.
She will be missed, but waiting on the doorsteps of Heaven to welcome all in.
