Betty Papas

Born on the island of Crete, on June 6, 1936, Betty came to the United States with her mother, brother, and sisters in pursuit of a better life. Betty embodied the tradition and religion of that beautiful island and her Greek heritage. Her life was the purest expression of the Orthodox faith, and she channeled all of her energy and love into the nurture of her family.

Betty was a devoted and supportive wife to her husband Chris (deceased) for 60 years. As a mother, she was immensely proud of her four sons whose welfare was her top concern, always. She thanked God daily for her grandchildren who provided her with great joy.

Betty was happiest when surrounded by her family. The home in Flushing was open to all and a place for family and friends to come together frequently. Over so many decades of being a warm and generous host, Betty’s spirit of hospitality became legend. Whether one person was visiting or fifty, Betty made sure there was a generous spread of her home cooked Greek food and enough for all to take home with them.

Betty will be remembered for her cheer, her sweetness, her generosity and her devotion, and for her warm heart that radiated love and care for others.

Betty was preceded in death by her son Mike and her husband Chris.

Beloved wife of the late Chris Papas. Cherished mother of Ted (Thea) Papas, Paul (Gia) Papas, Dean Papas, and the late Mike Papas. Adored yia yia of Alex, Nolan, and Sidney. Dear sister of Bessy and Teddy.

Betty loved everyone and always had a kind word to say about everyone that she knew.

The family will be receiving visitors on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 8:30 AM at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, 100 Fairway Dr, Port Washington, NY 11050. The interment to follow at Flushing Cemetery, 163-6 46th Ave, New York, NY 11358.
