We’re heartbroken to share that Carlo “Carlie Zapp” Zappavigna left us on April 24, 2025. Born on October 23, 1942, Carlie was the life of the party and a true friend to all. Before he moved to Elliot Pearl House in Belle Harbor, he worked for his father as a master carpenter. Carlie could always be found singing, telling jokes and lending a helping hand.
He leaves behind his sister, Margaret DeCicco-Kort, her husband, Edward Kort, his niece Donna Waltrop Holzeis and her husband, Erwin Holzeis, his cousin, Richard DiFranco, first cousin once removed, Denise Pazmino, countless relatives, and numerous friends at Elliot Pearl House where he spent the last 25 years of his life. Carlie was the son of Louis Zappavigna and Madeline Marra and the brother of Thomas Zappavigna.
Join us on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, to celebrate Carlie’s life at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Blvd., Flushing, from 9:30 to 11 am, followed by a light snack between 11 am and 12 pm before a 1 pm service at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave., Flushing. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the National Institute of Mental Health.
