He was born Christos Papadopoulos in Manhattan on September 10, 1968 to Irene and Panagiotis Papadopoulos. Chris grew up in Astoria, Queens with his older sister, Cleopatra, and was raised in a loving, hard-working, and spiritual household. From a young age, Chris was fascinated by how things worked and marveled at the mathematical miracles in everyday objects and in creation. After attending Aviation High School and New York Institute of Technology, Chris began working as a full time volunteer at the Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, NY; he often described his years there as some of the best of his life. Chris married his cherished wife Alexandra on November 9, 1991 and together they continued as full time ministers and volunteers until the birth of their first daughter, Juliana in 2006. Their second daughter, Sophia, arrived in 2007 and Chris and Alex enjoyed raising their girls in Bayside, New York since then. For the past twenty years, Chris owned and operated GTS Electrical together with his dear friend and business partner, Mark Reyes, and they handled a broad range of both commercial and residential projects. Although he was a busy family man and businessman, Chris continued to volunteer - building Kingdom Halls, helping during disaster relief efforts such as the Hurricane Sandy response, building the new Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Warwick, NY, and building the Long Island Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Chris also served as the Coordinator of the Body of Elders for the local Bayside Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the past ten years and was an excellent teacher and a loving shepherd. During his volunteer work, Chris made countless friends due to his hospitable nature, helpful spirit, wry sense of humor and love of basketball and football. Although Chris enjoyed many accomplishments in his life, he was most proud of his beautiful family. He was a supportive, caring, generous, hardworking, and fun loving dad to his daughters and a loyal and devoted husband to his wife of 34 years. His very sudden and unexpected passing leaves a painful weight on the hearts of his family and everyone who knew him. We are comforted by the Scriptural hope of seeing him in the resurrection when Jehovah God restores his precious life in the paradise earth to come.
Chris Papadopoulos is survived by his wife, Alexandra, daughters Juliana and Sophia, sister, Cleopatra, parents Irene and Panagiotis Papadopoulos, in-laws Zafirios and Katina Bazakos, brothers and sisters in law Teddy and Effie, John and Stella, and Nick, nieces and nephews Melina, Leah, Irene, Emmanuel, Katerina, and Zafiri, his aunts, cousins, and many, many close friends.
