Affectionately known as "Granny" she was one of five children, Harold, Frederick, Mamie and Emma, whom are all predeceased. Ethel attended Woodrow Wilson High School where she studied Interior Design which was evident through her keen eye for detail when it came to something simple as hanging drapes to arranging home furnishings for herself, family and friends. Ethel was a faithful member of Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church.
Ethel married Alfonso Coverdale from that union was born Joan Elaine Coverdale. Ethel began working in a factory in Long Island City, Queens, NY as a seamstress where she remained for 30 years until her retirement. Since Ethel was not willing to sit idle upon retirement she worked with special needs children in the Adopt a Grandparent Program in Flushing, NY where she received an award for meritous service.
Even when Ethel "Granny" Keys truly retired she could always be counted on to care for and assist her family and friends in any way she could. Ethel continued this way until the Lord called her home.
