Giuliano Lombardi, age 94, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025. He was born February 27, 1930 in Busseto, Italy to Leandro Lombardi and Maria (Lambre) Lombardi. Giuliano was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maura Lombardi, and son Joseph Lombardi. He is survived by two sisters, Gina Lusardi and Oriella Tinelli, along with his son Robert Lombardi (wife Bonnie). Giuliano is also survived by grandchildren Michael Lombardi (wife Clare), James Lombardi (wife Christine), and Carol Walklet (husband Troy). He is also survived by five great-grandchildren Thomas, Julian, John, Colin, and Elena.
Giuliano grew up on a farm as the oldest of six children. He served in the Italian army from 1952-1953. In the summer of 1953, he met Maura Lusardi, the love of his life, and they were married that fall. When they met, Maura lived in New York City and was visiting Italy on vacation. Giuliano completed one last fall harvest on the farm before they settled in New York City where they lived for 58 years until Maura’s passing in 2011. Giuliano worked primarily as a waiter at upscale restaurants in New York City, including the Persian room at the Plaza Hotel. During his career he developed close friendships and accumulated many great stories. He also enjoyed spending time on Long Island, NY, gardening, playing the card game Briscola with family, and cooking at home. His specialties included chicken cutlets and eggplant parmesan, and he loved sharing his techniques with his children and grandchildren.
Giuliano remained active until the end, playing bingo and socializing with other residents at his assisted living home and later his nursing home. He was strong, kind, and easy going, with a good sense of humor. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and especially enjoyed visits from his great-grandchildren. We celebrate that Giuliano had a long life that was well-lived, and how he touched so many of us in a positive way.
