Gregory R. Sahakian Jr., 73, of Whitestone, New York, passed away on May 11, 2026. Born on July 9, 1952, Gregory lived a life marked by steady devotion, capable hands, and a generous spirit that showed itself most clearly in the way he cared for those around him.
A beloved husband of Catherine M. Sahakian, Gregory’s greatest joy was the life they built together. This Friday would have marked their 50th wedding anniversary—a milestone that speaks to a love enduring in both tenderness and strength. He met Cathy at a party, and it was love at first sight. With the easy charm and humor so many came to know, he called her “Green Eyes,” and when he first met her, he told her, “I have a mountain house where he I can take you and we can watch the sunrise.” In the years that followed, that same sense of wonder and heartfelt devotion remained at the center of their home.
Gregory was a loving father of Gregory (Dawn) Sahakian II and Joseph (Serene) Sahakian, and a cherished grandfather of Serafina, Gregory III, Joseph Jr., and Benjamin. He loved his sons and daughters-in-law deeply, and he cherished his grandchildren most of all—taking pride in them, delighting in them, and holding them close in his heart.
By trade, Gregory was a plumber, and in spirit he was an inventor—someone who could see solutions where others saw only problems. He was known for always helping everyone, offering his time and skill with quiet reliability and sincere care.
Gregory’s interests reflected both discipline and adventure. He was a scuba diver instructor and loved karate, pursuits that spoke to his focus, confidence, and steady courage. He also played the drums, enjoyed fishing, and followed NASCAR with enthusiasm. He loved God and Country, and he especially loved to eat Cathy’s cooking—one of the many simple joys that made their life together rich and memorable.
