

John immigrated to NY from Chios, Greece to chase the American dream. He worked his way up in the restaurant business and became a successful entrepreneur.
John was a generous man with a huge heart. He was extremely social and a proud and prominent member of the Chian Federation of Astoria Queens for decades.
John was the devoted father of Ourania and Eleni Vavilis. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicolas and Ourania Vavilis, and is fondly remembered by his sibling Maria Karstimadakis in Chios, Greece. He was a treasured uncle, a great friend, and "like a father" to many.
John loved to cook and was a culinary wizard. His specialties included lamb on the spit and tsoureki. He was a regular churchgoer and a man of faith.
The family will be receiving visitors at Frederick Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11358, on January 14, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
A Funeral Liturgy will take place at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church of Whitestone, 11-05 150th St, Whitestone, NY 11357, on Thursday January 15th at 12PM.
Burial will follow at Nassau Knolls 500 Port Washington Blvd Port Washington, NY 11050, at 2PM.
His memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him.
