Josephine McManus was my beloved aunt. She was a constant in my life. I will always remember her taking myself, Patricia, and Collette to see the Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1964. It was a big event and Aunt Josie and her roommate Sally were wearing cocktail dresses. That was the standard back then.  Aunt Josie  came to every family event even though she had no children of her own.
If I had to pick one word to describe Aunt Josie it would be GENEROUS! She was always the first person out with her wallet. It didn’t matter if she knew you or not. She would rather spend money on others  
than herself. Josie could be quite outspoken, but she always meant well.

I will miss you so much, RIP. 🙏❤️🙏

It was with great regret that I received the sad news in Gubrawoolly of the death of Josie. It brought back many fond memories. 'Macks' was always such a welcoming house to céilí (visit) in during my younger years. It was the first house in Gubrawoolly to have a gramophone. I have great memories of Josie and Monie (Monica) playing records and the neighbours dancing. There was always great excitement when Josie would come home on holidays from America. There would always be a great party in ‘Macks’ and another in ‘Maggie Mickey’s’. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Josie's sister Betty and all of her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. May Josie’s kind-hearted soul rest in peace.

Sincere condolences on the passing of Josephine.  I heard from my neighbor who thought the wake would be at Farenga on Ditmars & would let me know the date for the wake as I did want to pay my respects.  I never did get that info & just did a search on-line.  I am sorry I missed both the wake & mass.  She was a neighborhood treasure.  Everyone knew her she made sure of that.  She loved to engage with people and always had an interest in everything that was going on with your life.  I was one of her "Alpha" laundry acquaintances.  I saw her sitting outside under a tree during her last days.  It was so hard to see her failing.  May God keep her soul & may she find good friends in heaven!

Sympathy to all The McManus family on the passing of our dear friend Josie. Such fond memories growing up together before you went to America and then all your trips back home over the years. Sincere sympathy to Betty and all of Josie's many nieces and nephews on the sad passing of a good friend. Such fond memories of Josie and all the McManus family as we grew up as neighbours and great friends in Gubrawooley. Loved when Josie would come to our home at night to play cards before she went to America.  I know there was a big irish welcome for you in heaven from your wonderful Mum, Dad, brothers and sisters. Josephine was a very lovely lady.  Always enjoyed seeing
her on St. Patrick’s Day and talking to her on phone.

Our deepest condolence to all those who mourn Aunt Josie! May she rest in peace with her brothers and sisters. Her memory will live on for a long time and stories will be told about her many adventures as she travelled through life in Ireland where she was born and her new life in U.S.  A lot of things can be said about Aunt Josie but being boring was definitely NOT one of them. Rest easy!
