Margaret B. Farrell, 91 passed away at home on February 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at her bedside. Margaret was born in New York City, June 29, 1924, the second of three daughters of Matthew and Kathleen Dunn. She was a graduate of Newtown High School in Elmhurst, New York and worked at the The Equitable Life Insurance Company. She also volunteered her time caring for babies at The New York Foundling Home. She married John Farrell in 1947 and together they raised eight children in Flushing, NY and spent every summer at Brant Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. Margaret was a communicant at Mary’s Nativity Church in Flushing, NY and a past member there of the Rosary-Altar Society. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband (1991). She is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Virginia Coulon (John, deceased 1998) of Glenmont, NY; Kathleen and George Guissi of Jupiter, Fl; John and Barbara Farrell of Flushing, NY; James and Marie Farrell of Lake George, NY; Mary and Jack Mihalick of Virginia Beach, VA; Stephen Farrell of Flushing, NY; Susan Farrell of Bayside, NY; Claire and Daniel Hughes of Bronxville, NY. Margaret was also thrilled to welcome her great grandchildren into this world, Emma Kathleen Thompson, Victoria Ann Risani and Ian Patrick Walmsley. Her love for family was evident especially during the many months she spent up at Brant Lake, NY with all her sons, daughters and grandchildren who often traveled far to enjoy spending time with her. A summer resident at the lake for over 65 years, she was “Peggy” to all her good friends in the Cove. She was an active member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Horican, NY during the summer months, and later St. John the Baptist in Chestertown, now rededicated as St. Isaac Jogues Church. One of her favorite pastimes was knitting and crocheting and she often was found sitting in her Adirondack chair on the porch or deck knitting a blanket or sweater for one of her grandchildren. Each of them went off to college with an afghan in their school colors. Her mind was sharp, especially when engaging a few of her family members in a game of cards, which she enjoyed up until her passing. Calling hours for relatives and friends will be at Quinn-Fogarty Funeral Home, 192-15 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, February 24.
