Richard Allan Binder of Fresh Meadows, NY passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2023, just 8 days shy of his 85th birthday with both his devoted wife Angela and his daughter Lori by his side. Son of the late Sidney and Belle Binder, proceeded in death by his beloved brothers Steven and David. Richard was born in Brooklyn, NY and is survived by his devoted wife Angela Liguori-Binder, his son Edward Binder, his 2 daughters Liza Binder and Lori Olivieri, daughter in law Bridgitte Binder, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Always close with his 1st cousins Arnold Yaeger and (now deceased) Peter Binder, Richard was that favorite Uncle that will be missed by all of his nieces and nephews.
Richard was a proud Army veteran and patriot who served in both Korea and Japan. He was an avid sports fan who loved to watch boxing and to root for his NY home teams. He was an avid and dedicated handball player who tried to get in a game or 3 wherever he could, whenever he could, and he played this game he loved into his 80’s.
Successful in both business and life, Richard was a resilient and hardworking man that reinvented himself to achieve his goals both professionally and personally. After serving his country, this tough Brooklyn kid found himself working at the 1st drug rehabilitation facility on the east coast, Daytop Village. Along with being a natural leader with a great sense of humor, he was a kind and caring man that treated others with dignity and those traits were recognized and utilized as he worked his way to the top in the Daytop organization. After spending several years as a Director of a Daytop facility, he went into a completely different field, the automobile industry. Again, starting at the bottom, he worked his way to the top and became a General Manager of automobile dealerships in both NJ and Atlanta, Ga. While that would have been enough for most people, Richard was not done and became a business owner by getting into the pay phone industry. He grew his business, ran it profitably for several years and as perfect timing would have it, sold it right before the wave of cell phones shut the pay phone industry down and then he retired. Always active both physically and mentally, retirement for him required another challenge so in his late 70’s, Richard became a licensed and certified personal trainer in the state of New York and for a period worked part time training at a couple of local gyms in Queens.
Richard spent most of his life living in NY, NJ, and a few years in Georgia. He enjoyed traveling in general and his international travels took him to Italy, Ireland, Spain, Canada, Jamaica, France, Germany and Scotland. This man can simply be described as a role model who spent his life treating people with kindness and respect. Among all of his accomplishments, what will be remembered most is how he loved his wife, loved his family and lived his life. He will forever be loved and missed and there will never be another like him.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.frederick-fh.com for the Binder family.
