Richard Del Favero, 85, passed away Sunday, April 21st, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 10th, 1938 in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of Ermelinda and Giordano “Leo” Del Favero. Educated in Chemical Engineering, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from City College of NY and his Master’s degree from NYU.
He started his career as a Chemical Engineer at Revlon and General Foods before moving into the specialty area of Fossil Fuels and taking a management position at Con Ed. From 1980 until his retirement he worked as an Oil Broker for International Oil Brokers.
Richard married Diane Arnone on June 9th, 1962 at St. Anne’s church in Flushing NY. He was the father of two children, Rick and Jill. In 1969 Richie and Diane bought a home in Flushing to raise their family and he personally maintained the house and enlisted support from family members for larger renovation projects. Along the way he taught his daughter a thing or two about swinging a hammer. He spent time with his kids, in work around the house and in play and always made it home for 6PM dinner at the table with the whole family. He was a strong supporter of his children as they stepped into independence as young adults, encouraging them to pursue their passions and was always there to help them achieve their personal goals.
He always made time for his grandchildren, spending endless hours playing school and pirates and being silly. Extended family vacations were the highlight of every summer.
He was an avid Stamp collector, loved Italian music, golf, science and history, and always enjoyed a good meal and glass of wine. He never met a cookie he didn’t like. He knew how to work a room and at all the family gatherings always had a smile or funny story to share. The house was always open on Christmas and he made sure everyone felt they were part of the family.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
He is predeceased by his wife Diane of 59 years, his sister Maria and her husband Robert Scaglia. He survived by his step brother Frank and wife Emilie Perry, his children- Rick Del Favero, Jill and her husband Tom Ciotti and his grandchildren Salvatore and Johanna Ciotti.
